 Walkathon
Our
Lady of the Assumption School has only one school wide fundraiser
every school year—it is our Annual Assumption School Walkathon.
Traditionally this Walkathon happens the Friday before the Thanksgiving
long weekend in October.
Our Walkathon is essential in
promoting school spirit and building community. We ask
our students to collect as many pledges as possible before the
walk and grades compete against each other for the most money raised.
While
our students and their parents know that this money will be used
in order to enhance our school programs and needed school equipment
(one year we were able to purchase brand new, safe, playground equipment
for the school), they are also aware that each year part of our total
Walkathon money raised will go to a very needy cause and/or worthwhile
charity.
For example, when Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, part
of our Walkathon money was donated to Mercy Cross Catholic School
in Biloxi, Mississippi, so that they might purchase school supplies
they so badly needed in order to open their doors again.
